Afghanistan (@1.33) vs Zimbabwe (@3.25)

Our Prediction:

Afghanistan will win

Afghanistan – Zimbabwe Match Prediction | 15-09-2019 08:30

Zimbabwe, who drew their last two T20i series to Ireland and the Netherlands made a losing start to this tournament. That still did not prove enough, however Bangladesh also benefitting from some late hitting as they posted 148/7 to win with two balls to spare. Ryan Burls unbeaten 57, including 30 runs from one Shakib Al Hasan over, lifted Zimbabwe from 63/5 to 144/5 in a match reduced to 18 overs last time out.

Rather down to how theyve failed in that endeavour. The leggie tops the wickets chart for the series with 11 scalps, and has posed the toughest questions for Zimbabwes batting order. The complete flip of fortunes for Zimbabwe has been down to how theyve negotiated leg-spinner Rashid Khan. Mujeeb Zadran, another young spinner, has also been amongst the wickets and troubled the opposition, leaving them in a precarious position three games into the series.

He and fellow spinner Mujeeb ur Rahman (8.5 credits) both cost less than you might expect. He could be a good vice-captain. Team-mate Mohammad Nabi is more consistent (and higher up the order) with the bat and always expected to pick up wickets too. Captain/Vice-captain Rashid Khan is clearly in good form, having taken 11 wickets in the test match against Bangladesh, and the Afghan captain remains the world number one T20i bowler. Given he can score big runs down the order too, he is a great Dream 11 captain pick. For Zimbabwe, they have Kyle Jarvis back in good form in recent T20 internationals, while Tendai Chatara or Neville Madziva are both good value to complete your team. Rashid Khan is a bowler for Dream 11 purposes then, and excellent value too at 9.5 credits.

Pitch Report and Conditions

Not all is lost for Zimbabwe though. The task will fall on senior pair of Sikandar Raza and Brendon Taylor who are second and third on the list of top-scorers for the series, behind Afghanistans Rahmat Shah. Theyre down 1-2 but their only victory of the series was a comprehensive one by 154 runs in the second ODI right after losing by the same margin. The defeat in the following fixture was down to a batting implosion, which theyll be out to address in the next game.

The acquaintance with the conditions, however, should do a world of good for them. Afghanistan didn't have a particularly useful World Cup campaign and bouncing back into the form could be a bit tricky for them. We expect the same to happen again with some intelligent, accurate, and experienced bowlers available at their disposal. Their batting, however, do not have the same flair as their batting and if their batters can step up the game from their end, it's going to be an Afghanistan's exhibition yet again. Over the years, it's been their bowling that has caused trouble for the oppositions.

Kyle Jarvis also got two wickets in his four overs bowled out while he was charged for 31 runs. Tendai Chatara also picked up two wickets against 32 runs in four overs. Neville Madziva was the most successful bowler from their side who picked up two wickets in his 3.4 overs bowled out against 25 runs. Ryan Burl picked up one wicket in three overs bowled out against 27 runs. They could not defend the target of 145 runs in 18 overs. The performance of the bowling unit of Zimbabwe was not much impressive in their previous match against Bangladesh.

Their team thrived well under the captaincy of Rashid Khan, who himself was exceptional in both the departments of the game. Afghanistan are set to resume to campaign on Bangladesh's soil as they lock horns with Zimbabwe in Bangladesh-Zimbabwe-Afghanistan tri-series. We expect a hard-fought encounter on Saturday. Afghanistan are yet to take the field after their terrific victory over Bangladesh in a one-off test, but when they do, they'll be brimming with confidence. Zimbabwe are coming off a heartbreaking loss in a game they should have won and will be itching to turn the tide around in this match. The match is set to be played on Saturday, 14th September at Dhaka.

Afghanistan T20 Squad

Zimbabwe will be gutted to lose the first match of the series, especially after being in a position to dictate terms. They, however, would have loved to have 20 runs more on the board, especially after the start they had. In a rain-affected game - which was reduced to 18 overs a side, Zimbabwe did well to reach 148 for seven as the pitch got slower towards the end of their innings.

Zimbabwe needed to pick up early wickets to have any say whatsoever in the game, and they did better than Bangladesh. They had the hosts in all sorts to trouble as Bangladesh lost their top six batsmen for a total of just 60 runs on the board. Zimbabwe bowlers, however, failed to pick up any other wickets as Afif and Mosaddek Hossain stitched together an excellent partnership, which was responsible for taking the hosts to a win that looked impossible at one stage.

In that match, Brendon Taylor was the player of the match who has scored 57 runs for their team to win the match. Zimbabwe has already played 1 match in Bangladesh Tri-Series 2019. They had confidence and prosperity to win the match and to maintain a good position in the points table. Now they are going to square off against Afghanistan. Zimbabwe was going to play the 2nd match of Bangladesh Tri-Series 2019. Zimbabwe had their match against Bangladesh Cricket Board XI and Zimbabwe has won the match by 144 runs and 17.2 overs.
