This is massive chance to put in some myriad displays and showcase to the world that the side needs to be spoken in the same breath as some of the best cricketing countries in the world. And with the side having been on the ascendancy after having missed out on qualifying for the CWC in the shorter formats of the game, theyll be looking to resonate the same level of performances come England today.

While for England the focus on this test match will be to test out their new players and try to hammer down on the best plausible combination, for Ireland this match is of paramount importance owing to entirely different reasons.

Here is our IRE vs ENG Only ODI Match Prediction

Our side is picked based on the best performers for each side with us picking up players based on their pivotal role and importance to the team paired with their recent performances, pitch conditions and roles in the side.

We dont think Ireland is going to be overawed by the sense of occasion, though. We expect them to come out aggressive and give this the best shot they can believing they can cause an upset. Ireland has only played two test matches in its history and this is by far the biggest occasion it has had in its relatively short cricketing history.

The visitors are relatively much weaker in both batting and bowling departments and will need to play out of their skins if they are to pose a challenge to the Englishmen. Although this will be a four-day affair and the hosts will be playing a few rookies in their side, the are still heavy favorites to win. England are by far the superior of the two sides and we expect them to secure a comfortable win. They will be warming-up for the forthcoming home Ashes series against Australia with a one-off test match against Ireland. England, the champions of the 50-over format, will now switch their focus on the purest and the most respected format of the game - test cricket.

Root was in scintillating touch at the World cup, making a place for himself in the team of the tournament and his application, determination and resolve to craft out long, well worked innings are going to see him emerge as one of the highest run getters from this match. We are going ahead with a two man partnership from England for this fixture with captain Joe Root and new entrant, opener Rory Burns coming in for us.

England vs Ireland, Only Test, Prediction & Preview

The visitors, however, will want James Vince to set the tone for them in the absence of regular openers Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales. Root is not far behind with 5090 runs and he will be looking to start off his World Cup preparation with a big knock. England will bank on their stalwarts Joe Root and Eoin Morgan to deliver the goods with the bat. Rashid has been one of the team's most consistent white-ball bowlers over the years and the leg-spinner could spell trouble for Ireland. Archer will be making his international debut for England and he will look to give his all to stake his claim in England's final World Cup squad. Skipper Morgan has scored the most runs for England in ODIs - 6069 runs which includes 11 centuries and 38 fifties. Jofra Archer, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid will be the biggest threats for the Irish batsmen when it comes to bowling.

In terms of bowling, the visitors will bank on their pace bowlers Tim Murtagh, Boyd Rankin and Stuart Thompson to take wickets in this match. There will also be plenty of expectations from Thompson who has picked seven wickets in the two tests that Ireland have played thus far. Murtagh took a match-haul of six wickets (a four-fer in the first innings) in the test match against Pakistan. He will probably start off with the new ball and it will be crucial that he provides the early breakthroughs.

This will not be an easy task for them however as even though England are fielding something of a second string team, they still possess plenty of quality. While Ireland may have their moments, England should wear them down over the four days and ultimately win. With the likes of Root and Bairstow underpinning the England batting, the fringe players around them will be motivated to impress ahead of the Ashes. Ireland will be extremely motivated to get their first ever Test win in what is just their third Test match in history and first against England.

England have picked Jason Roy after his spectacular performance in the World Cup. Roy, who is likely to open the innings with Rory Burns, will look to replicate his ODI success in the longest format and stake his claim for a spot in the Ashes squad. Jonny Bairstow is also coming off a terrific World Cup and will want to continue his excellent form. Joe Root is another in-form batsmen in this line-up and the skipper will be expected to warm up for the Ashes with a big knock.
